We packed the car and kids up for a quick jaunt to Lake Delavan, Wisconsin for a birthday party! The MacGregor house on Lake Delavan turned a spry 100 years old this year.
The trip was good - not too much traffic (even around Chicago where we encountered some...city drivers) or construction which is very unusual. We checked into the hotel and got settled with the kiddos who were a little disoriented but managed to go back to sleep without TOO much of a struggle.
We stayed at a resort on the south side of the lake and took advantage of their pool and hot tub. The mattress in our unit was...well, there are no words that I can type that would be appropriate. Let's just say that we spent a lot of time in the hot tub easing our sore backs. And yes, we are aware that this may also be sign that we are getting old...but we are sticking with our original story that it was the mattress' fault. Graham and Fletcher loved spending time in the pool though. Little water bugs!
We got up at our usual time...Grahambo I could set my watch by you...and had a wonderful breakfast at Millie's with lots of strong coffee before heading over to Nono and GDad's. Spent a lovely morning with Nono and Gdad before returning to the resort for nap time.
We went down to the Yacht Club for dinner - Fish Fry. Graham ran and ran and ran around outside. He found a "Big Truck" and pushed it around the Yacht Club lawn from the beach area to the play structure and back again I don't know how many times. He did stop long enough to eat some fish and ketchup - yum - before going back out to run around some more. His store of energy is simply incredible. I wish I could transfer some of that energy to myself sometimes.
Saturday we were moving a little slower but still managed to get to Nono and GDad's by 10. Found Andrew and Lauren, Blake and Elyse had arrived ahead of us and the party preparations were in full swing. The tent was up and the table and chairs were ready to go. The kids went inside to play with the trucks and tractors to try to stay out of the way of the work-in-progress.
The party was a big success. Friends and family from far and wide came into town to see Nono and Gdad. We left around 9pm and the party was just getting started. By that time though, Graham had run from the house to the Yacht Club and back at least 3 times and up and down the hill from the tennis courts to the stairs down to the lake a few dozen. He was exhausted, he just was in no mood to admit it. I spent the last hour before we left in the house having quiet time with the boys trying to "unwind" Graham. While he did unwind, it didn't seem to make much difference in his bedtime.
Sunday morning, Graham and I got up and had some nice quiet time together while I packed and he chatted on and on about something to me. We were out of the resort by 10:30 and on our way to the house to say good-bye to everyone...except they had all moved to Denny's for breakfast! So we joined them for a few minutes to say good-bye. It was so nice to see everyone! I wish we got together more often!
